Yes, it is very important to stay engaged even after a shutdown. As many individuals know, simply by turning on the news, the government recently reopened after a nearly 90-day shutdown. If your organization focuses on legislative engagement as part of their practice for funding, you may be wondering how this affects the importance of the holiday engagement process. How do we engage during these Particularly Chaotic times of year. Your organization may be thinking, how did a government shutdown affect these activities? This is what this article is going to address.

Some events may have been pushed from one day to another due to the activities of legislature in recent months. It does not mean they will not occur. This simply means that the tracking of the Legislature is much more important, even during a shutdown. Oftentimes, they want to reengage with the public, reassuring the devotion the legislative body has to their constituents, AKA the people they serve. As a result, here at J Gould Consulting, we are recommending that your organization Stick to the plan of typical holiday engagement. As a refresher, here’s what that means.

1. Go to the Legislative Representative website.
2. Look up on the events section anything they are hosting and attend
3. Find the table or section of the representative who is hosting the event. Thank them and enjoy the event for what it is.
4. At this point, you may also introduce your organization to whatever individual is manning that table.
5. Before you leave, stop by the table once more and thank them again, offering perhaps a point of contact such as a business card, etcetera.

Remember, as always, the point of these engagements is to get to know your representatives or follow up on possible things you have discussed throughout the year if you already have that initial contact relationship.
