Mid-summer Fun And Legislative Activity: How To Keep Balance?

It is at the end of July. Summer is coming to a close in more ways than one. Children are preparing to go back to school and in the legislative world the legislature is getting ready to go on to their summer break. This is typical around the country. When the sun break starts very slightly depending on the state. It can start between late July. to early August.  They return in mid-September at the latest.

As an organization, you may be wondering, great, what does this information mean for me? What am I supposed to do now? The answer questions depends on many factors, but the major factors are these questions: Is your organization currently working on a concept that they are trying to get through the legislative process in your state or in the nation? If the answer is yes organization should be working on Building those relationships. So that they can further work on legislation or legislative goals with the office when the break is over. If the answer the question is no. Organization spent some during the summer break to go to public events, legislative represent and do some introduction. If your organization is a Regular Reader of our articles/newsletter you know by now that these styles are basic. However, here is a refresher on what to do with your little fuzzy the details.:

Organizations new to this process should. Good idea for Well-rounded orgs in this world as well. (Side note, attending events is never bad, even if you’ve been doing this for a while.)

  1. when arriving to the event find the table labeled Assembly person blank or Senator blank depending on whether it is Senator or Assembly hosting, and simply thank them for hosting it.
  2. Enjoy the event for what it is. Do not think about your company goals or aspirations in the Legislative forum.
  3. When leaving the events, thank the Assembly person or senator again and leave your contact information in the case that you do want to make a further connection.

If you are already in the process of discussions with either side regarding your issue. Then the steps will be slightly different.

  1. Touch base with that office.
  2. Make sure you have a meeting for slightly after the break is over.
  3. Thank them for working with you and touch base slightly after the break ends.

No matter what stage your organization is in during this time period, it is important to remember that summer breaks exist for a reason. Everybody should take a moment to refresh, relax, and take a breath. Working through the legislative process is extremely demanding. It does take a long time, so these breaks are crucial for everybody’s well-being and mental health, so also remember to take advantage of them. However, keep in mind with the timeline so you can get right back to it when you get back out there.
