- Pure local representatives who are recently elected into office.
- Read their BIOS. Often found on their primary websites.
- See if they are hosting any events and attend them.
- Always be respectful. Do not go into an event thinking about what your organization needs and how much financial assistance or anything else. Recognize the work that was done to make the event possible. Simply thank them.
- When leaving the event, you can give a representative of that office an organizational card or some way to get a hold of you. To try and arrange your first introductory meeting.
- When thinking about that introductory meeting, keep in mind that the climate of the time. If it is more conservative, your organization needs to be aware of what that means.
- Be prepared to compromise. Know what’s important and what you can afford to put aside for another year.
